It is plastic-free July, and a government announcement last week means that retailers are going to have to focus on the subject whether they like it or not

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) set out last week how much manufacturers are going to have to pay for using different packaging materials from October this year. This is part of an effort to shift the cost of processing packaging waste from local authorities onto producers - the scheme is titled Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging.
